Susan P. Gateley, author of multiple books about Lake Ontario, will be available to discuss and sign her newest book A Natural History of Lake Ontario from 5 to 7 pm. We will set up outside the store, weather permitting, during the Oswego Farmers Market. The event will move inside if it rains.
Formed by glaciers more than twelve thousand years ago, Lake Ontario has captivated nature lovers for generations. Unique among the Great Lakes for having once been connected to the sea, fossils from ocean life have been found near the lake's shores. From incredibly diverse bird migrations in the spring and fall to the squalls and lake effect snow in winter, each season offers a rich ecological tapestry. Author Susan P. Gateley charts the natural history of Lake Ontario from its ice age origins to the climate and habitat challenges it faces today.
Susan P. Gateley is an Upstate New York native, and has authored multiple books on Lake Ontario including Legends and Lore of Lake Ontario and Maritime Tales of Lake Ontario. She has an MS in fisheries and has been a sailor, educator and Great Lake advocate for half a century.
