This year's year's celebration will have a slightly different approach: a reader's theater of three one-act plays.
The first, a short story in dialogue, Dorothy Parker's wry and tender "Here We Are," presents a pair of newlyweds on a train, heading off for their honeymoon. Both the bride and the groom must sort out and come to terms with feelings of eagerness and apprehension. It will be read by Jessica Quindlen and Dylan Duffy.
Next will be "Sure Thing," by David Ives. Quinn Etchie and Knate Roy will read this witty, hilarious series of approaches to an attempted pick-up in a café. Each time the attempt goes off the rails, the couple must retreat and start again, correcting what went wrong.
Finally, Mark Cole and Banna Rubinow will read Anton Chekov's "The Bear." A gruff businessman, intent on collecting a debt, visits a grieving widow. She is as determined to be rid of him as he is intent on getting the money her late husband owes him. Both of them get more than they bargained for.
The event is free to the public and refreshments will be served. To reserve a seat, call the bookstore at 315-342-0077.
